Dental Implants Give Seniors Control Over Their Lifestyle

As a senior there is a seventy percent chance of tooth loss, and dental implants can help.  An experienced cosmetic dentist can provide you with several ways to replace missing teeth.  This puts the control back in your hands over how you want to correct your smile and the type of lifestyle you want to live.  Just because you experience tooth loss, doesn’t mean that you have to stop eating your favorite foods or live life differently.  Modern dental technology and Dr. Moneyhan make it possible to live life like normal.

Previously, when seniors started to lose their teeth, the majority of their teeth would be pulled or fall out naturally.  This is no longer the case as it is much easier to restore damaged teeth and prevent them from needing to be removed.  Rather than missing most of your teeth, you may only have one or two fall out.  When this is the case, dentures are probably not the best option. Partial and full dentures have been used for centuries and are more comfortable than ever.  There are, however, clear drawbacks to wearing dentures.  They have to be removed at night, there are additional cleaning steps that must be followed, and they can come loose.

Fortunately, there is a better option. Dr. Moneyhan can install dental implants instead. This is a permanent solution for replacing missing teeth.  Once installed, they never have to be taken out and can be cleaned like normal by simply brushing and flossing your teeth. Additionally, you will need to see a dentist for regular teeth cleanings twice a year, the same as you would ordinarily.

As a senior, the benefits to having dental implants installed are monumental. Just because you are older, doesn’t mean you should have to slow down. You should still be able to eat all of the foods you enjoy and carryon normal activities for as long as possible.  These are the simple things that make life more enjoyable.  Limiting the types of foods you can eat is simply not necessary when an implant can restore the functionality of your natural teeth.
In order to have the procedure completed your gums and jawbone need to be healthy and in good condition.  If not, additional dental treatments will need to take place prior to having the implant installed.  We can handle both in our local dental office.  When ready, Dr. Moneyhan will place a metal piece underneath the surface of your gums and attach it to your jawbone.  This is the implanted portion and will serve as a new synthetic root system that is extremely durable.  It will take several months to heal so many patients wear a temporary denture to keep their smile looking normal.  After the healing process is complete, the new tooth can be attached to the metal root system for a gorgeous looking natural smile.

Dental implants are very easy to care for, and they are stain resistant. They give you the freedom you need to enjoy life on your terms.  To learn more call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Moneyhan today.
